Discover Airlines is expanding its presence in North Africa for the winter 2026/27 season, adding new routes from Frankfurt to Agadir and from Munich to Fez as demand for Moroccan getaways continues to climb among German travelers.

The Lufthansa Group leisure carrier will introduce two new scheduled services to Morocco at the start of the winter timetable in late October 2026. The airline plans to operate twice-weekly flights between Frankfurt and the Atlantic resort city of Agadir, alongside a weekly service connecting its Munich hub with the imperial city of Fez.

According to the initial schedule filings, Frankfurt to Agadir will run on Mondays and Fridays, targeting both long-weekend sunseekers and travelers starting longer winter breaks. Munich to Fez is set to operate on Sundays, providing a direct cultural escape from Bavaria to one of North Africa’s most atmospheric historic cities.

The new services are expected to operate through late March 2027, aligning with the core European winter leisure season. Flight times are forecast at around four hours in each direction, making Morocco a convenient medium-haul option for German holidaymakers looking beyond the Canary Islands or Egypt.

With the additions, Discover Airlines will increase its Moroccan portfolio to three destinations, complementing existing flights to Marrakesh from both Frankfurt and Munich.

Capacity Boost as Morocco Rides a Tourism Surge

The expanded Morocco program reflects a broader push by the country to attract more visitors from Germany and other key European markets. Tourism arrivals to Morocco have grown strongly in recent years, with double-digit increases reported across several seasons as travelers seek out winter sun, historic cities and desert landscapes.

German demand has been particularly robust, encouraged by competitive fares, a growing range of nonstop routes and active promotion by the Moroccan National Tourist Office. Recent agreements with airlines across Europe have focused on lifting seat capacity and broadening access beyond the most established gateways.

Discover Airlines’ decision to add Agadir and Fez for winter 2026/27 follows similar capacity moves by other carriers into Moroccan destinations for the 2025/26 and 2026 seasons. For Morocco, the new German-operated routes provide valuable additional lift into two cities the authorities have highlighted as growth priorities.

Industry observers note that Morocco’s strategy is to spread tourism more evenly across seasons and regions, reducing reliance on traditional summer peaks and well-known hubs such as Casablanca. Additional winter flights from Germany slot neatly into that plan.

Agadir: Atlantic Beach Hub Targets Winter Sunseekers

On Morocco’s Atlantic coast, Agadir has long positioned itself as a year-round beach resort, with a mild climate and broad sandy bay that make it particularly attractive in the European winter. The city also serves as a gateway to the Souss-Massa region, including surf beaches, coastal dunes and the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

The new Frankfurt service is expected to appeal to package holiday travelers as well as independent visitors connecting through the Lufthansa Group network. Access via Frankfurt opens up one-stop journeys from other German cities and from feeder markets across Northern and Eastern Europe, channeled through Discover’s long- and medium-haul leisure network.

Local tourism stakeholders in Agadir have been investing in hotel refurbishments, seafront developments and outdoor infrastructure with an eye on higher-value winter visitors. Additional capacity from Germany should support that effort, complementing existing links from other European countries and adding resilience to the city’s route portfolio.

For German travelers, twice-weekly flights offer flexible durations, from short sun breaks to multi-week stays popular with retirees and remote workers seeking milder weather between November and March.

The addition of Fez from Munich gives southern German travelers a new nonstop option to one of Morocco’s most historically significant cities. Fez is famed for its medieval medina, traditional tanneries and intricate Islamic architecture, drawing visitors interested in culture, craftsmanship and culinary experiences.

Until now, travelers from Munich bound for Fez have typically needed to connect via other European hubs or through Moroccan gateways such as Casablanca. A direct weekly Sunday service shortens the journey and makes long-weekend or week-long trips more practical for those with limited vacation time.

Tour operators focusing on cultural and city-break itineraries are expected to benefit from the new route, with Fez often combined with nearby Meknes, the Middle Atlas region or rail journeys onward to Rabat and Casablanca. The new flight may also encourage more independent travelers to explore lesser-visited corners of inland Morocco beyond Marrakesh.

For Discover Airlines, the Munich to Fez link helps diversify its leisure portfolio from the Bavarian hub, adding a distinctive destination alongside winter favorites such as the Canary Islands and Egypt’s Red Sea resorts.

Discover Airlines Strengthens Its Position in the Moroccan Market

The winter 2026/27 expansion underscores Discover Airlines’ role as the Lufthansa Group’s dedicated leisure airline, tasked with building out medium- and long-haul holiday capacity from Frankfurt and Munich. Since its launch under the Eurowings Discover name in 2021 and subsequent rebranding, the carrier has steadily added sun and leisure routes across Africa, the Americas and the Mediterranean.

In Morocco, the new flights to Agadir and Fez will sit alongside an increased schedule to Marrakesh, where Discover already serves both German hubs. Combined, the airline expects to offer up to 16 weekly flights to Morocco in the peak winter period, giving travelers a choice of beach, city-break and cultural itineraries.

Analysts say the move also reinforces Lufthansa Group’s competitive position in the North African leisure market, where several European carriers are ramping up capacity. By integrating Discover’s services with the group’s broader network and loyalty program, the airline can capture both point-to-point holiday traffic and connecting passengers from secondary cities.

With booking for the winter 2026/27 season typically opening many months in advance, tour operators and individual travelers will be watching closely for final schedules and pricing as Discover Airlines positions itself for another busy winter in Morocco.
