New Prima Plus Flagship Arrives in the U.S.
Fresh from its handover at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard near Venice on March 5, 2026, Norwegian Luna is now charting a transatlantic course that will bring the 156,000-gross-ton ship to PortMiami later this month. The 3,500-plus-guest vessel is the second in Norwegian’s expanded Prima Plus class and the latest step in a multiyear fleet renewal focused on larger, more amenity-rich ships.
Norwegian Luna’s official U.S. debut is set to unfold in late March, anchored by a naming ceremony in Miami before the ship launches year-round Caribbean sailings. The arrival reinforces Miami’s status as a primary showcase for the brand’s newest hardware and gives cruisers an additional premium option for seven-day itineraries through the region.
From its elongated profile to its widened public decks, Norwegian Luna builds on the footprint of earlier Prima-class ships Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, while closely mirroring sister ship Norwegian Aqua. The design tweaks are aimed at easing passenger flow and expanding open-air space, responding to guest feedback from the first vessels in the series.
Inside, Norwegian is positioning Luna as a ship that balances headline-grabbing thrills with a more boutique, upscale ambience than some of its larger mass-market competitors, particularly in its stateroom finishes, specialty dining and private enclave offerings.
Bold New Attractions at Sea
At the center of Norwegian Luna’s promise of an “unforgettable cruise experience” is a slate of new and upgraded attractions, headlined by the Aqua Slidecoaster, a hybrid waterslide and roller coaster that spirals around the ship’s funnel. Riders launch in raft-like vehicles, racing through translucent tubes that offer sweeping ocean views before banking back toward the upper decks.
The ship also debuts Glow Court, an immersive digital sports complex where a high-tech LED floor and walls transform traditional games into larger-than-life experiences. Guests can play interactive versions of basketball or soccer, or join family-friendly games where motion-tracking visuals respond to every move on the court.
Norwegian Luna’s open-deck offerings have been expanded from earlier Prima-class ships, with a larger main pool area and more loungers to reduce crowding on sea days. Infinity-style pools and hot tubs overlooking the wake aim to anchor long, lazy afternoons, while a constellation of bars and casual eateries line the outer decks to encourage passengers to linger outdoors.
Elsewhere on board, the ship carries forward Prima-class signatures such as the wraparound Ocean Boulevard promenade with glass-floored Oceanwalk sections, cabana-lined spaces and al fresco dining terraces. These outdoor corridors are designed to keep guests close to the water, an increasingly prized feature as newer ships grow taller and more resort-like.
Entertainment Lineup Raises the Curtain
Norwegian Luna arrives with a freshly announced entertainment program that leans heavily into music-driven productions and late-night experiences. A key draw is “Rocket Man: A Celebration of Elton John,” a new mainstage show blending live performers with archival concert footage and elaborate lighting to reimagine some of the artist’s most recognizable hits for a cruise-ship audience.
The ship will also host “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder,” a futuristic, acrobatics-forward production that fuses digital effects with high-energy choreography and circus-inspired stunts. Set in the ship’s main theater, the show is designed as a visual spectacle tailored to the advanced stage technology built into the Prima Plus design.
For classic rock fans, “Syd Norman’s Presents: A Tribute to Eagles” extends Norwegian’s popular intimate club-style format, pairing a house band with narrative elements and guest interaction. The venue’s standing-room setup and bar service aim to blur the line between concert and nightlife, keeping the energy high deep into the evening.
Norwegian Luna’s after-dark portfolio continues in The Improv at Sea, where the new adults-only “LunaTique” show channels Las Vegas nightlife with a mix of comedy, burlesque-style numbers and circus acts. Norwegian is banking on this diversified lineup to differentiate Luna in a competitive Caribbean market where entertainment offerings have become a key deciding factor for repeat cruisers.
Unmatched Luxury in The Haven and Beyond
While Norwegian Luna is built to appeal broadly to families and multigenerational groups, the line is also placing particular emphasis on its upscale accommodations and quiet spaces. At the top of the ship, The Haven by Norwegian offers an exclusive, keycard-access enclave featuring spacious suites, a private infinity pool, dedicated sundeck, specialty restaurant and bar, as well as butler and concierge service.
The Haven’s multi-level design wraps around the aft of the ship, providing panoramic ocean views and a sense of seclusion that contrasts with the buzz of the main pool deck. For guests willing to pay a premium, the enclave effectively functions as a boutique hotel within the larger vessel, with direct private elevator access to the public areas below.
Beyond The Haven, Norwegian Luna’s standard cabins and suites reflect the Prima Plus focus on contemporary, residential-style design. Staterooms lean into soft neutrals, textured materials and smart storage, while enlarged bathrooms and walk-in showers answer a long-standing guest request across the fleet.
Wellness has also been dialed up, with an expanded thermal suite in the spa offering a circuit of saunas, steam rooms, heated loungers and experiential showers. The aim is to give passengers a resort-caliber sanctuary where they can decompress between port calls and high-energy evenings on board.
Year-Round Caribbean Focus from Miami
Once Norwegian Luna completes its 13-night maiden voyage from Civitavecchia, near Rome, to Miami, it will settle into a schedule of weeklong Caribbean cruises from its new U.S. homeport. The itineraries are set to spotlight marquee Eastern Caribbean ports such as Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands.
A consistent highlight of these sailings will be calls at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas, which is in the midst of a multiyear upgrade that includes expanded beaches, enhanced dining and new attractions. By pairing the brand’s latest private-destination enhancements with its newest ship, Norwegian aims to deliver a tightly integrated cruise-and-island experience.
Positioning Norwegian Luna year-round in Miami underscores the city’s continued role as a launchpad for new ships and concepts across the cruise industry. For Norwegian Cruise Line, it also provides a high-profile stage to demonstrate how the Prima Plus class is evolving, with Luna serving as a visible symbol of the company’s focus on design, entertainment and premium spaces as it competes for North American cruisers’ vacation budgets.
With bookings open and the inaugural Caribbean season about to begin, Norwegian Luna is poised to test whether its blend of high-thrill attractions, polished interiors and elevated service can capture travelers seeking something new out of Miami’s ever-expanding cruise skyline this spring.
