The first phase covers three Airbus A350-900s and one Boeing 777-300ER, all configured for medium and long-haul operations. Publicly available schedules indicate that these aircraft are primarily deployed on routes linking Seoul with major cities in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia, while also appearing on some shorter regional services.
Reports indicate that Korean Air plans to prioritize long-haul missions as the first beneficiaries of Starlink connectivity, reflecting strong demand from business travelers and leisure passengers on flights that can exceed 10 hours. The airline’s stated goal is to have most of its operating fleet equipped with Starlink by the end of 2027, creating near-global coverage across its network.

Unlike earlier paid Wi-Fi products on Korean Air, the new Starlink service will be offered free of charge in every cabin, including economy. According to airline communications and Korean-language media coverage, passengers will not need to create an account or pre-purchase a package to get online.
The connection process is designed to be straightforward. Travelers switch their devices to airplane mode, enable Wi-Fi and connect to the onboard network identified as wifi.koreanair.com. From there, they are directed to the Korean Air Wi-Fi portal, where they enter the name and seat number printed on their boarding pass. After viewing a short advertisement, full internet access is activated for the remainder of the flight.
Publicly available information highlights that this ad-supported model allows the carrier to provide connectivity without additional fees, while maintaining a unified login process across cabins. The same interface is expected to appear on both long-haul and selected regional services as more aircraft complete the retrofit program.
